2 days' travel - 3 days in the saddle - 510 miles - a bar drunk dry (did anyone take the last desperado?) - and 180 riders and Marshals creating a marvellous cameradie despite the weather's best efforts.
All in all, one of the best Challenges, with a tremendous Gala dinner on the last evening to celebrate.
Next Year's Lake Geneva Challenge was also announced, together with a closed road Sportive in Bedford that will aid the training - if not mirror the Lakeside scenery!!
Now for the hardest part - tell all your friends and colleagues that you completed the Challenge and push for sponsorship now while the memories are fresh.
Keep an eye on the website for further news and details of the 2016 Lake Geneva Challenge - travelling out 22nd and returning 26th September.
After a rain soaked day packing bags, bike gear and a missed flight from Inverness - 35 Cycle Teams and 9 Marshal Teams are ready for the off on the Extramile Bike to the Future Challenge 2015!!
All heading to an unusually free running Eurotunnel Terminal - I hope it stays that way.
If you are cycling, get joined to our WhatsApp group by texting 07802 170659 - having first installed the App on your Smartphone.
Have a last push and het sponsor money rolling in - use our JustGiving and Virgin site stop maximise the Taxman's refund.
We also have a photographer this year - Suzanne will be waving and cajoling smiles and you can also send your own photos to our Facebook or WhatsApp group to have chance of winning a prize in our photo competition.
We are looking forward to the first morning's ride through 6 miles of the Le Mans Racetrack - hopefully nobody will encounter the Porsche and Audi Race Teams at 200mph!!
With only 5 weeks until the Challenge, an update of route and other matters:
·Tunnel and Dartford:
oWe are in contact with the Tunnel to see if can get over and back smoothly – hopefully the Migrant and Farmer issues will disappear by September?
oWe now need to submit Advance Passenger Information to the tunnel – this will have to be by the Team Leader, and Eurotunnel will confirm a link directly to each Team Captain:
oPlease note that there is a web based payment system for the Dartford crossing now – we will confirm links closer to the time – again, this is each Team’s responsibility:
oWe will shortly confirm tunnel crossings, so PLEASE ensure Teams complete vehicle details so we can allocate to correct trains for cars, van or pantechnicon!
oSee as the enclosed link at the bottom of the page, the very detailed route directions. You must print these as an aid to following the route – particularly these give forward advice of ascents, descents, major road junctions – including those DO NOT MISS junctions –fuel stops and changeover points in the longer climbs or narrow roads.
oWe advise you transfer the route to a Michelin map as additional aid to not getting lost!!
oFor those with a Garmin – the route is accessed on the following links:
Join us on Sunday 19th July from 9am onwards at Big Rock for our mini cycle sportive!
Many thanks to Big Rock Climbing Centre for hosting and organising this event, along with a BBQ buffet afterwards. All riders, friends and anyone is welcome! Just email email@example.com to confirm for catering and organisers' to be able to plan groups.
Everyone is welcome to join us on our signed routes with the option to cycle 40km or 65km through rural Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire.
For only £3 per person (or free for Extra Mile Challenge 2015 riders) including a buffet at Big Rock after the ride, it's excellent value for money. The Sportive is for a fantastic cause as donations are being made towards Extra Mile Challenge's Charities and Special Effect charities.
More information on the event will be coming soon, but keep Sunday 19th July free for our exciting mini sportive and xtra Mile Training ride!
Having planned the route, we always rely on Preston Ayres and Rob Oakley to drive over the route to make sure it's safe, varied and enjoyable. They have come back and report the route to be a classic mix of French terrain, luckily missing the Le Mans traffic, and passed as Extramile Challenge Approved.
Preston is now transferring turn by turn, climb by climb and descent by descent instructions to the map and route note - we will be issuing these to Team Captains shortly.
Hotels are checked, crossings booked and the Marshal Team assembled ready to receive the Teams in September.
We still have a few Team places left, so please enter now if you haven't already, before we have to close entry.
All Teams entered should now have paid the entry fee, and began to get some sponsor money together - again, we have a sponsor form available to help, together with JustGiving and Virgin Money websites to allow you to easily reclaim Gift Aid.
We will be gathering Team Information form Team Captains over the next few weeks, and each rider will then receive a welcome mail to, in turn, gather important information for contacts and the like.
The Bike to the Future Challenge 2015 is proving very popular. With 34 teams now signed up, remaining places are limited, so best to get your Team entered soon.
This year's Challenge remains terrific value at 1396.00 per Team - which this year includes accommodation and meals on all 4 nights, with tunnel crossings. This is our 13th Challenge, so you can be assured of great marshaling and route marking, together with a great cameradie amongst the Teams - all whilst raising money for Charity!
The Route takes us back to Le Mans, Poitiers and the West side of France.
Just follow the link at the sign up button on the front page of the website to enter basic details. You'll then receive a link to complete further Team details and then send the money to Preston to secure your place.
We hope to hear from you all soon! Read More
With returning and new teams, we now have 25 entered and paid their deposit.
We also have a number of Teams working on getting their 4th member so they can enter, so don't delay; get your entry in via the website as soon as you can to avoid disappointment. All the dates and details are in the download brochure on the homepage.
The 2015 Extramile Bike to the Future Challenge is now open for entries!
Take a look at the brochure and you will see the route for this year takes us from Le Mans to Poitiers and the Futuroscope park.
Again, entry fee is 1396.00 for a team of 4 Challengers - tremendous value that includes food, accommodation and tunnel crossings. With our Early Bird promotion, we have 23 Teams already entered, so don't delay in hitting the entry button to the right of the home page header and send off your deposit as soon as you can. We are currently limited to space for 45 Teams, and expect demand to be high again this year.
If you cant find the information you are looking for on the website - please email through the website or direct on firstname.lastname@example.org
Congratulations to the Spokesmen - returning for the 2015 Challenge and having paid their entry fee in full have qualified for the 100.00 early bird Charity donation incentive!! Tim O'Leary, Russell Smith, Manfred Saenger and Jon Ross are well known Challengers and are showing the way. With the route set to be announced in early January, and with 15 Teams already signed in for the early bird incentive, now is the time to get your entry in!!
Happy New Year to all our friends, supporters and Challengers. With the arrival of 2015, we are closing the Vosges Challenge, and Preston is busy tallying all sponsor monies from Teams. Please remember that all sponsorship and fundraising must be accounted for to Extramile. If you are using the Virgin or Just Giving websites, please make sure these are directed to the Extramile Challenges Charity - we can easily reclaim the Gift Aid to maximise monies. Alternatively, please use our Sponsor Form; if you get the necessary address and name details, we can reclaim the Gift aid for you. If you do make a mistake and monies go straight to your nominated Charity - please let Preston know - so he can account for the monies and make sure your commitment to our fundraising Charities is met.
Going into 2015, take a look at the early bird discount for advance entry - that's in a different story.
Happy 2015, and keep an eye on the website and Facebook sites for news of where we are heading in 2015!!
